On Sunday night, Prince George accompanied his father Prince William on a short trip to Berlin, where the pair watched England take on Spain in the final match of the European Championship Cup. The trip was a royal reunion, as William and George got the opportunity to speak to Spain’s King Felipe VI and his younger daughter, Princess Sofía.
England lost to Spain 1–2, which means the night was also the second time in a row that George watched a nail-biter of a Euro Cup final in the stands with William. In 2021, the royal heirs were also present for the final match against Italy, where the game went to extra time and penalty kicks before a crushing England loss. On Sunday, George and William were photographed celebrating with the nation’s newest Prime Minister Keir Starmer and England’s Football Association chair Debbie Hewitt when an impressive goal from 22-year-old player Cole Palmer tied the score. The father-son pair wore matching ties and were also seen sporting matching looks of despair at another moment during the tense game. Felipe and Sofía, on the other hand, were shown on the screen calmly enjoying their team’s big win.
Though George was able to see the match in person, his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were able to stay up to watch as well, according to a photo shared to the social media accounts that William shares with his wife, Kate Middleton. The photo shows Charlotte and Louis sitting on an ottoman wearing England jerseys emblazoned with their names and ages. They captioned the picture with a personal note consoling England for the loss. “England, your teamwork, grit and determination were an inspiration to all of us, young and old,” it read. “Congratulations to Spain.”

Though King Charles III and Queen Camilla didn’t share any details about their own watch party, the king did write a heartfelt note to the England National Team coach Gareth Southgate following the game’s conclusion. “Although victory may have eluded you this evening, nevertheless my wife and I join all my family in urging you and your support team to hold your heads high,” it read. “Please know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a really great achievement in itself, and one that brings with it the pride of a nation which will continue to roar for the Three Lions today—and in the many triumphs which I have no doubt lie ahead.”
Earlier on Sunday, Charlotte joined her mother at Wimbledon, where they watched the final men’s single match where Carlos Alzcaraz, also from Spain, beat Novak Djokovic. Charlotte and Kate later went onto the courts to award trophies to the winners of the tournament’s various categories.
