All’s well that ends well in the world of Taylor Swift’s girl squad. For months now, fans have been wondering if Swift and her model-best friend, Karlie Kloss, are still on the outs. In January, Kloss even had to change a cryptic Instagram caption that Swifties were sure was a dig at their fearless leader. She also had to tell New York Times readers not to believe the gossip.
But with no real-life sightings of the two women on the record for the entirety of 2018, there were only so many rumor-fires Kloss could put out. Until this past weekend, when Kloss was seen dancing and filming her friend near the stage at a Swift concert in Nashville on Saturday night. Kloss posted a selfie of the two together to her Instagram as well.

It’s been a long time since Swift was seen in public with any of her famous girl friends—or seen in public much at all, really. The singer took a lengthy break from public life in 2017 before releasing her Reputation album in the fall, and even as she’s been touring she’s kept things pretty quiet, her Instagram much more professional than personal. The only evidence that actually pointed to a rift with Kloss was a “squad” T-shirt in the “Look What You Made Me Do” video, but like so many other Swift-related guessing games, the whole story seemed to begin and end at that shirt.
At the same time, Kloss has gotten engaged to Josh Kushner, her longtime boyfriend and brother of Jared, while miraculously steering clear of all the Trumpworld controversy that could bring. (Kloss voted for Hillary Clinton, and she and Kushner both attended the anti-gun-violence March for Our Lives.) Swift, who’s remained largely apolitical and inspired plenty of rumors in the process, could theoretically have been keeping her distance from Kloss because of the Trump connection . . . but with the entire Swift squad off doing their own thing, Taylor included, there was no evidence for that, either.
And now, we have Swift’s return appearance to Kloss’s Instagram, which is a statement . . . at least as much as a selfie can be a statement. Does this herald a new beginning for the squad? The arrival of a Kushner everybody can agree on? Or, we can just go with what Kloss told the Times and believe this is more of the same: a friendship that was doing just fine, out of the public eye.
